Local residents can help raise millions of dollars for local conservation projects if they vote “yes” in a referendum next month.
That’s one of the messages from Dave Hillary – the program manager of the Kootenay Conservation Program – as he travels our area to inform the public about a new fund which would see homeowners taxed about $15 dollars a year for ten years .
He says in the East Kootenay the program helped generate $1.5 million in grants …
The fund – proposed for RDCK Areas A,D and E – would pay for local values and priorities like habitat and water projects, working family farms and environmental stewardship.
