SD8 announces staffing changes for next year

Students will notice some changes around the Kootenay Lake school district next year as the board welcomes  new principals and says farewell to some current ones. 

In Kaslo, J.V. Humphries principal Victoria McAllister will take the reins as principal for Crawford Bay Elementary Secondary while acting principal Ron Sherman will now become principal at J.V. Humphries and Jewett School.

L.V. Rogers will lose vice-principal Danielle Klassen to Trafalgar Middle School where she will work alongside vice-principal Mark Bonikowsky. 

The district will also be saying farewell to retiring district principal Rob Simpson and Redfish Elementary principal Kim Jones this year.

In a media release, superintendent Trish Smillie says she is thankful to everyone for their service and wishes everyone luck in their future endeavors. 

“I am incredibly thankful for the teamwork, flexibility and dedication of our principles and vice-principals,” Smillie says. “We need compassionate, supportive, and effective leadership for educators and learners to excel.”

School leader openings at L.V. Rogers and Redfish Elementary will be filled in the coming months and the changes will be announced before the new school year begins.

The changes will take effect Aug. 1.
