School District 8 (Kootenay Lake) has appointed Jason Tichauer as assistant superintendent, effective Sept. 1.

Kootenay Lake School District 8 (SD8) has approved an $88.2-million budget for the 2026–27 school year, marking a modest increase despite continued enrolment decline.

A petition circulating in School District 8 is raising concerns about planned changes to Indigenous education staffing in elementary and middle schools, but the district said the shift is intended to strengthen supports for students.

School District 8 has appointed a new principal for Salmo Elementary School. Mr. Roman Wyllie will take over from current principal Rod Giles, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

School District 8 is projecting a balanced budget for the 2026-2027 school year with a continued focus on student supports for learning and achievement.  

Students returning to Crawford Bay Elementary School in the fall will see a new face in the halls.
