Investigations set for Meadow Creek mill fire

The Office of the Fire Commissioner is confirming they will be investigating the blaze that destroyed the Meadow Creek Forest Products mill Thursday.

This is mainly because there is no local fire protection service at the site some 45 minutes drive from Kaslo.

The OFC will co-ordinate with the BC Safety Authority and Work Safe BC to see if there is any potential for prosecution.

The Fire Commissioner will focus on cause and origin of the fire and identify if there were any fire code infractions.

Local RCMP says the mill’s fire suppression system was “rudimentary” and ineffective due to the cold weather.
