Saving Winterfest?

All may not be lost regarding Castlegar’s annual Winterfest.

The event was cancelled by organisers Friday following the announcement that striking CUPE city workers would continue their picketing around city hall. That’s where the tree lighting ceremony was due to take place next week.

Some participants said they wouldn’t take part if picket lines were maintained.

The union local has now announced they’re seeking a new venue.

President Leford Lafayette said in a statement -that reads in part – they are hopeful of finding something that works so that Castlegar families – including their own- can get together this holiday season.

A city councillor has said the union has wrongly picked a fight with kids, families and Santa when the labour dispute is with the city.
