New registration and other rules/costs for off-road vehicles

The snowmobile season is upon us and BC riders are coming to terms with new rules …and new fees.

All off-road vehicles now need to be registered with a licence plate.

That costs a one-time $48 but you’ll pay about $120 more a year if you cross highways or go on forest service roads.

Don Frew – a multiple local ATV club member -says some see it as a cash grab but it’s necessary to ensure all riders are responsible and accountable.

Fines can now be in the thousands of dollars.

The new rules are also aimed at better tracing of stolen off-road vehicles.
