A tragic outcome to the serious incident in Trail last week that saw two elderly women hit by a vehicle.
One of them – a 68 year old Trail woman- has died of her serious injuries. The other remains in hospital with serious injuries.
The two were walking across the street at the intersection of Second Avenue and Robertson Street last Tuesday night. RCMP continue to investigate the matter. Alcohol, distracted driving and speed are not factors.
Meanwhile a local business owner says the city of Trail needs to do something to improve the lighting along Second Avenue.
Doug O’Hern owns and operates the auto detailing shop at the intersection with Robertson St.
O’Hern can recall three separate incidents in recent years although he feels pedestrians also have to take more care.
He figures parked vehicles near the intersection also create a hazard.
Trail city councilor Sandy Santori says if police conclude poor lighting was to blame then he thinks the city is responsible for making improvements.
