Local victims part of national fraud investigation

A million dollar national fraud scheme victimized residents of the Silver City.

Trail RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit was part of an elaborate effort that arrested three suspects for identity theft in B.C, Alberta and Ontario.

Corporal Darryl Orr says the investigator in Trail started looking into the case and it just took off – leading them to work with many departments all over Canada.

Orr says unfortunately several of the victims are Trail residents.

He explains the suspects would use other people’s information to acquire credit cards and then rack up the bills.
