Mediated talks to resume in Castlegar:CUPE reaction

The two sides in the bitter five-week labour impasse in Castlegar are going back to the table for mediated talks.

This after a particularly heated barrage of criticism by union members and supporters at this week’s council meeting. We asked CUPE local President Leford Lafayette if that emotionally charged meeting had anything to do with getting things back on track.

He says he couldn’t put his finger on any specific factor that has prompted the resumption of talks that will happen Monday.

Lafayette suggests the prospect of getting a deal by Christmas is a motivator.

Job security language and grievance handling are the key issues.
