CUPE reflects on end to Castlegar strike

Castlegar’s striking civic workers will be back on the job by January 5th at the latest. But was the bitter labour dispute worth it?

The 35 members of the union local have ratified the new 6-year collective deal.

It features letters of agreement on main sticking points – job security language and employer-paid time for grievance handling.

The deal is two years longer than what was initially on the table although the salary increases for the first 4 years are still around the 6.1% mark.

City council is expected to ratify the deal soon.
