Nelson fire not targeted at academy:NPD

Nelson police are assuring the public that an alleged arsonist is now off the streets.

After a lengthy investigation a man has been arrested for the potentially dangerous fire at the Academy of Classical Oriental Sciences building last October.

Here’s Detective Constable Nate Holt.

Holt says the fire -which was put out before it got hold – was not targeted at the academy or the residents below.

He says the perpetrator was upset with somebody but he couldn’t offer further details.

The 19 year old from Creston has been released on strict conditions and will appear in court next month.
