Bye bye Extra Foods building

Heavy machinery makes light work of ripping through the front of the old Extra Foods building on Nelson’s Vernon Street.

After weeks of internal hazardous material removal this is the big visual and tangible sign that the $27 million Nelson Commons development is well and truly underway.

After the old site is torn down a large excavation hole will be dug for the new foundation and underground parking.

Completion of the 4-storey multi-use site – which is being developed by the Kootenay Co-op – is expected in 2016.
