Young Agrarians seek land access strategies

How are young farmers in the Kootenays supposed to get into the business when the cost of land is prohibitive?

It’s a problem Laura Hannant of the Young Agrarians group says threatens the continued commercial growing of food.

But she says all is not lost — her group is promoting alternative land access strategies.

That includes parterning, leasing, and licensing land, as well as linking retiring farmers with ones starting out.

They’re teaming up with the West Kootenay Permaculture Co-op to host a workshop February 12th.

It’s at the Vallican Whole from 1 pm until 6 pm.
