Nelson votes not to support Trail's KBRH road project

Nelson council has voted not to support Trail’s grant application for a second access road to the Regional Hospital.

It was a 3-3 tie among the six councilors present.

Those opposed cited various reasons including the lack of an endorsement from Interior Health,Regional Hospital Board and Castlegar.

But their main issue was a concern that supporting Trail’s bid could impact Nelson’s quest for funds from the same federal granting pool.

Mayor Deb Kozak says there needs to be changes with the grant system.

Kozak says Trail should not feel slighted by the vote because council considered things very seriously.
