Grand Forks council being too secretive:Julia Butler

There needs to be more transparency with Grand Forks City Council.

This from councillor Julia Butler who criticized the rest of council at their last regular meeting about the secrecy surrounding their operations.

Butler points out under section 90 of the Community Charter there are 15 reasons why a meeting “may” be closed to the public…but that doesn’t mean it has to be.

Butler says the community is very engaged right now but much of what council is discussing behind closed doors isn’t being released to the public.

As an example there has been no public information given regarding the circumstances around the sudden departure in November and then the recent re-hire of CAO Doug Allin.

The mayor and many councillors who were elected in November campaigned for more transparency. Butler argues that’s not happening at the moment.
