Selkirk's guarded response to ABE transition funding

A guarded response from Selkirk College to one-time funds to help shift towards possibly charging fees for Adult Basic Education (ABE).

President and CEO Angus Graeme says they’re getting about $325,000 from government, although that’s not new funding.

He stresses rural colleges like Selkirk don’t have the population numbers to draw on like the large metro centres.

The government wants ABE programs to pay their way.

Graeme says attracting local learners at an affordable price is critical to the college’s sustainability and they have yet to figure out the full financial impact on students if they moved away from free Adult Basic Education.
