Castlegar council wants youth political participation

How can Castlegar engage youth in the community?

It is a question being asked by councillor Florio Vasilakakis and the city’s Community Wellness and Social Services Committee.

Vasilakakis attended community and youth engagement workshops at last year’s UBCM meeting and now the committee is mulling options to reach out to younger demographics.

He says they’re considering having a real Council Meeting at Stanley Humphries Secondary.

Castlegar Council has sent councillors to the school in the past to discuss civic politics and run through mock regular meetings.

The city will be reaching out to School District 20 to see if it is a possibility.
