Section of Nelson-Salmo Great Northern Trail to close for season

A section of the Nelson-Salmo Great Northern Trail will close for the season starting tomorrow.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay said the closure affects the stretch between the Cottonwood Lake viewing platform and the Ivy Road trailhead.

“This is an annual seasonal closure due to high bear activity in the area,” said the RDCK.

“This section of trail is an important wildlife corridor, and limiting access helps reduce human-bear interactions during peak activity periods.”

The section will be fully closed as of Tuesday, April 28. Residents are asked to respect all posted signage and trail closures.
