Stage 2 water restrictions take effect in Taghum

Residents served by the Woodland Heights water system in Taghum are now under mandatory Stage 2 water conservation measures due to high water demand and declining reservoir levels.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) said the restrictions have been implemented because high water consumption has forced the well pump to operate continuously while reservoir levels have declined.

Under Stage 2 measures, watering of lawns, gardens, trees and shrubs is permitted only between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and again from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Watering gardens, trees and shrubs with a watering can or hand-held hose is still permitted at any time.

The measures will remain in place until further notice. However, the RDCK said stricter water conservation measures could be introduced if water demand continues to increase, hot, dry weather persists or reservoir levels decline to critically low levels.
