Two week open burn period for Nelson

The Nelson Fire Department has approved a burn period starting this coming weekend.

Chief Len MacCharles says residents will be allowed to burn certain material from April 4th to the 19th after applying for the proper permit.

The permit can be picked up at the Nelson Fire Hall for $10.

The burn does not include yard waste, vegetation such as leaves, grass clippings and MacCharles adds it certainly doesn’t include any building material or painted wood.

He adds residents need to keep the fires small and have proper extinguishing equipment.
