B.C. parties race to file candidates as nomination deadline looms

British Columbia’s major parties are close to a full slate of candidates in B.C.’s 93 electoral districts, a day before the nomination deadline.

Nominations close at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.

Candidates are required to submit a complete nomination application, including a $250 nomination deposit, before the deadline.

Elections B.C.’s website showed that, as of 10 a.m. Friday, it had accepted nominations from 77 B.C. NDP candidates, 64 B.C. Conservative candidates and 17 B.C. Green candidates.

CentreBC also had 12 official candidates and OneBC had four.

Four other candidates were listed as Independent or other affiliations.

The list does not include all candidates who have declared their intention to run in the election, only those whose nominations have been accepted.

A party needs 47 seats for a majority in the 93-seat legislature.

Advance voting takes place Oct. 16 to 21 and final voting day is Oct. 24.
