Tipping fees rising at RDKB landfill

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary is explaining a major hike in tipping fees at a local landfill.

The charge at McKelvey Creek is slated for a near 16 per cent increase going from $95 a tonne to $110.

Environmental Services Committe chair – and Rural Area E director – Roly Russell says when it comes to creating revenue between regional taxation and user fees – they want this service dependent on a user-pay model.

Russell says according to their strategic plan they are increasing the rates slower than planned.

He adds they need to put money in reserves to prepare for the landfill’s inevitable closure.
