Nelson Pride and the Nelson Public Library invite community members to Nelson Prides 1996–98: How It All Went Down!, a unique community reading and discussion taking place on Wednesday, August 26, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the Nelson Library.

This interactive event will bring local history to life by inviting participants to explore archival documents, photographs, letters, City Council minutes, newspaper articles, press releases, and Nelson Pride Committee records. Together, these materials tell the story of how local organizers worked through challenges and community resistance to establish what has become a lasting and important community tradition.

Volunteers will recreate the conversations, challenges, and moments that helped shape the early years of Pride in Nelson. After the reading, the audience will have a chance to share their reflections and connect the past to the present through a facilitated community discussion. It’s an opportunity to experience the history of Nelson Pride in a whole new way!
