Leafs jump to third to finish season

In the KIJHL Sunday, the Nelson Leafs finished the season on a winning note.

They beat the Braves 2-0 Friday in Spokane and the Border Bruins the next night in Grand Forks 5-2.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks closed their season with a 3-2 overtime loss in Fernie to the Ghostriders.

The Hawks also 6-3 to the Kimberley Dynamiters Friday in Fruitvale.

The Castlegar Rebels blasted the Bruins 7-1 at home Friday and took a 6-4 road win over the Braves Saturday.

The playoffs begin this week.

The third-place Nelson Leafs will meet second-place Castlegar in round one.

That series begins Thursday in Castlegar.

Beaver Valley finished the season with the league’s best record.

In the first round they’ll face Grand Forks, who finished fourth in the Neil Murdoch division.

All first round series are best-of-seven.
