Nelson fronts money for bear-proof bins

More bear-proof garbage bins will soon be available in Nelson.

City council has agreed to put up $22,000 to help with a bulk buy of 100.

City manager Kevin Cormack says WildsafeBC will then sell them to residents for $250 each.

The bins are part of a regional plan to reduce conflicts between humans and bears.

Last year 47 bears were killed in West Kootenay due to preventable attractant issues.
