17 homes under Evacuation Alert south of Silverton

The South East Fire Centre reported Sunday the Mount Aylwin wildfire about 2 kms south of Silverton was 8 hectares in size.

Twenty fire fighters are tackling the blaze, with support from two helicopters.

Multiple airtanker groups were used Saturday.

An Evacuation Alert is still in place for the 17 homes between Enterprise Creek and Red Mountain Road (fire numbers 8479 to 9155 along Highway 6).

The fire is east of Highway 6, near Beaverton Creek at the base of Mount Aylwin.

It was reported Friday.

Lightning brought several new fire starts in our region which were reported Saturday.

These included 0.7 hectare fire near China Creek, 3 kms west of Castlegar;  a group of four small fires directly across Lower Arrow Lake from Deer Park; and 0.4 hectare fire near Nemo Creek,  2 kms off the west shore of Slocan Lake.
