Quest for new Blewett-Taghum boat launch

A regional district director says a new boat launch for the Blewett-Taghum area won’t be as good as the old one.

A petition calls on the RDCK to find a new launch site after Teck closed the one on Fisherman’s Road.

That was due to concerns about contamination from old mining operations.

Area E Director Ramona Faust says she’s already been working on the issue for a couple of years.

But Faust says the alternate sites aren’t as suitable as the now-closed one.

It was the only boat launch on that stretch of the Kootenay River.
