Kootenay unemployment rates climbing

A big jump in the Kootenay jobless figures.

Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate stood at 9.1 per cent last month.

That’s compared to 5.9 per cent in July 2014 and 5.5 per cent a year earlier.

Seven thousand 100 people were looking for work in our region last month.

The national unemployment rate was 6.9 per cent and the provincial rate was six per cent.
