UPDATE 8PM THURSDAY: Rock Creek wildfire

A further update regarding the serious wildfire burning near Rock Creek in the West Boundary and another wildfire making its way up from the US on Anarchist Mountain.

The near 750 hectare fire near the intersection of Hway 3 and Hway 33 near Rock Creek spread quickly just after 1pm Thursday.

The highways remain closed.

Evacuation Orders are now in effect for Rock Creek, Hulme Creek Rd along the Hway 33 corridor moving north of Rock Creek though to Westbridge. Westbridge has been evacuated.

Also an Evacuation Order  is in effect up the Christian Valley Road as far as the 7 km mark.

Rock Creek residents have evacuated to Midway.

An Evacuation Order is also in place for folks on Anarchist Mountain regarding as second fire coming up from the US.

The Kettle River provincial park was evacuated by foot earlier and the evacuees were tactically evacuated by incident command.

Residents on Christian Valley Road to Fiva Creek were evacuated. Evacuees are directed north, up the Christian Valley Road to Lumby.

Evacuees from Rock Creek to Westbridge are being directed to Willow Park church in Kelowna on Hway 33 .

Livestock was being received to the Rock Creek fairgrounds..

The South East Fire Centre says heavy machinery was being used with 36 crew on the ground. It was not immediately clear what aerial resources would be deployed at first light Friday.
