Smoky skies prevail

Despite the weekend rain and some blustery conditions the smoky skies aren’t going away.

A Smoky Skies Advisory including for the entire Boundary and Kootenay areas remains in effect.

This is because of the continued southerly winds bringing up smoke from several complex wildfires in Washington State.

However Interior Heath’s Air Quality Health Risk Index looks a lot better than last week.

Most of our region is ranked at level 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.

We’re advised to avoid strenuous outdoor activities because of the particulate pollution.

Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have underlying medical conditions.
