Local wildfire crew a match for US “hot shots”

A top local wildfire crew mixed with the best in the US had the chance to show how good they are.

That’s one of the key memories for Nick Davis – the supervisor for the Valhalla Unit crew – that held the north west flank of the Stickpin fire in Washington state last month.

The fifteen specialists logged a trail and built hand-guard for two weeks straight working alongside a leading Type 1 US crew.

Davis says his crew sees about 80 days of action each year whereas the US crew they were with can be on fires twelve months a year.
