Paramedicine teams coming to rural Kootenays

Thirteen small communities in our area are to get a community paramedicine team.

They are among 31 communities within Interior Health who will get the new service.

The paramedics will focus on delivering basic health care support to doctors and nurses in a non-urgent setting like people’s homes.

Nelson ‘s Corey Viala is on the provincial committee for paramedicine.

Also by giving them full or part-time work it enables rural paramedics to make a living because the on-call emergency pay rates are so low.

Among the local communities chosen for the service are Winlaw, Fruitvale, Midway and New Denver.
