Teachers’ union head outlines hiring priorities

The Nelson District Teachers’ Association president says $50 million to hire new teachers in BC is a good first step.

Paul Boscariol says the money should be deployed to several priority areas.

Committees involving the union and district administration will review areas of greatest need.

How much each district gets hasn’t been worked out but it’s expected to be based largely on enrollment.

The funding is in response to a Supreme Court of Canada ruling restoring contract language stripped in 2002.
