Nelson heritage building wrapped up

A Nelson heritage building is wrapped up in a cocoon but it’s not an art installation.

Work has been underway for a few weeks on the Emergency Management BC building on Vernon St.

That’s the former land titles office built in 1899.

Upgrades to the building envelope includes repointing the brick (renewing the external mortar joints).

They’re also replacing exterior windows, securing and enclosing exterior shutters, and putting in a new security screen.

To keep the winter weather out, the building is wrapped up like a mummy.

The project is worth about $300,000.
