Cannabis licensing bylaw passes first hurdle

A public hearing has been set for March 6 on Nelson’s proposed medical cannabis regulations.

This after council voted 4-2 last night to pass first reading of a new business license by-law.

Councillor Anna Purcell was among those in favour but admits she struggled with the decision.

But Purcell says she’s more comfortable with this by-law than a previous one that was defeated.

It would charge dispensaries $5,000 for a license and impose other restrictions.

However, councillor Janice Morrison says she can’t support it.

However, Morrison says she appreciates all the effort that city staff have put in to this by-law and the previous one.
