Nelson looks at new technology as parking fees rise

Nelson will look into new payment technology as it prepares to hike parking meter rates.

The hourly charge is expected to rise this spring from $1 to a $1.25.

But chief financial officer Colin McClure says they’re exploring alternate ways to pay.

Nelson makes about $850,000 a year in parking meter revenue.

That money goes into paving, which McClure says the city feels it’s running behind on.

The fee increase is projected to raise an extra $75,000.
