Nelson will soon be home to one of the only three fibroscans in the province.
Bryna Idler of the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation says it helps detect liver fibrosis.
Right now patients are sent to Kelowna or Vancouver for the brief procedure.
The new equipment has been ordered but staff will need training before the fibroscan can be used.
The hospital foundation raised $80,000 for it.
