Mungall challenges Liberals on Jumbo municipality

There was a testy exchange in the BC legislature this week over the future of Jumbo Glacier mountain resort municipality.

Nelson-Creston MLA Michelle Mungall urged the Liberals to do away with it.

Minister Peter Fassbender didn’t reply directly but indicated he thinks the ski resort will still go ahead.

Jumbo was incorporated as a municipality in 2013 despite not having any residents.

The resort’s development stalled after its environmental certificate was revoked in 2015.

Mungall also presented a petition on the matter to legislature.

She says it has over 61,000 signatures from people who want the BC Liberals to keep the Jumbo Valley free of development.

She adds people across the globe have signed it.
