It took a big effort to remove a vehicle that hit that an overhead canopy at the Shell station on Nelson Ave. on Wednesday afternoon.
Nelson Fire and Rescue says the cube van wedged itself under the canopy, mostly detaching the façade. Firefighters responded at 2:10 p.m. and found the truck itself was keeping the façade from falling.
“The challenge became removing the truck without any additional damage,” assistant chief Mike Daloise said in a news release.
After firefighters, police, and the city building inspector huddled, they decided the façade would need to be supported and lifted to remove the truck. This was accomplished by a construction crew using scaffolding.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
