A new five-year, $10 million ecosystem program has been announced by the Columbia Basin Trust.
The ecosystem enhancement program will work with communities in the basin to improve and maintain a variety of ecosystems, including wetlands, fish habitats and grasslands.
The trust will look for input from community groups, First Nations representatives and local governments to see what areas need the most work.
Delivery of benefits senior manager Tim Hicks says they hope to take on minimum two projects a year.

He says this program is unique.
The Trust will start looking for input in the new year and hope to get the first project underway in the spring
They’ll focus on the Kootenay Lake area and Rocky Mountain Trench area to begin with.
