Glacier Gymnastics signs new lease with city

Nelson’s Glacier Gymnastics has signed a new five-year lease with the city for space in the Civic Centre.

It will see their rent reduced from $1,575 per month to $1,500.

But city corporate officer Frances Long says the club is now on the hook for utilities.

But the city will remove unneeded fixtures to reduce the water and sewer bill.

The club’s bill for operations and maintenance will increase from $5,000 to over $13,000 per year.

But their staff will no longer have to do the work, which will now be the city’s job.

The club came before council over the summer saying they couldn’t afford the increases without cutting into programming.

The club hasn’t responded yet to a request for comment.
