Nelson Police issue warning about scams

Nelson Police say a number of scams are going around as tax season approaches.

One includes the victim being told they owe payment for outstanding taxes and there is a warrant out for their arrest.

The caller, sometimes pretending to be a police officer, then negotiates payment.

A credit card scam involves the caller saying your card has been used.

Afterwards, you’re asked to log into a computer to verify your identity.

Another scam involves a caller saying you are entitled to a large sum of money from the US Federal Reserve Bank.

Nelson Police advise many variations of the scams are making the rounds and to always think before providing personal information to anyone.
