The Downtown Nelson Street Outreach Team has published its findings from its first year.
287 individuals were served in the downtown between October 2016-October 2017.
Executive Director of Nelson Community Services, Rona Park, says she was surprised at that number.
They also found there were less repeat visits to the ER.
Park says people who were visiting the ER ten times or more dropped to zero in the Street Outreach Team’s first year.
She says they’ll do what they can to keep the service running for at least two more years.
The Team has secured the majority of its funding for another year, but will be doing some community fundraising.
Park says one area for improvement is building more awareness and education with the downtown business community.
