Community input sessions planned for Columbia River Treaty re-negotiations

Renegotiations of the Columbia River Treaty are still a little ways off, but it’s already a big topic of discussion for many local politicians. Mayor Deb Kozak was part of a panel discussion at the Lake Roosevelt Forum in Spokane, Washington last month.

She says they’ve been a part of the forum in the past, however with renogotiations anticipated this fall or next spring, there’s renewed interest south of the border.

Kozak says Canada’s Chief Negotiator for the Columbia River Treaty is touring the area right now and she had plans to meet with him yesterday afternoon .

The Province of BC will be hosting community meetings this June which include Creston, Nelson, Castlegar and Nakusp. More details will be available soon.
