The first-ever Youth Water Festival is happening in Nelson today. Nina Sylvester with Friends of the Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society says over 400 students will be learning about why fresh water is so important with a focus on Kootenay Lake. Students will make their way to different booths which will have a short presentation or engagement activity.
Sylvester says the idea was suggested based on events done in Ontario.
Sylvester says it’s received a lot of attention from teachers and there’s actually a waiting list for students who want to go.
She’s hoping it continues as an annual event.
It hosted in Lakeside Park near the concession from 9:00-1:00pm.
