Wildsight is raising concerns over two adventure tourism tenure applications in the Purcell and Selkirk Mountains. Retallack and the Lower Kootenay Band are looking to develop a new helibike and heliski area in the south Purcell Mountains while Stellar Heliskiing wants to expand operations in the Selkirks.
Wildsight Conservation Coordinator Eddie Petryshen says a big part of their concern is around helicopter noise –Â mountain goats in particular can be impacted.
Petryshen says they’ve been hosting meetings around the Kootenays in order to start community dialog.
Residents in Kaslo can attend a community meeting hosted by Wildsight at the Saint Andrews United Church on Monday.
