Parking, garbage pick up and downtown safety are all issues Rob Richichi wants to see action on if elected to Nelson City Council.
The business owner has created a “wish list” of items based on discussions he’s had with constituents at his stores. He wants to reimpose the $50 seniors downtown parking pass, have weekly garbage pick up and a two year tax freeze.
“Part of the reason for [the freeze] is I’d like to reduce high paying management positions within the city. I think we over spend and I’d like to get our management ratio down to a more acceptable level probably like, one to 20 people rather than one to four as it sits currently, from what I can understand.”
Another big item for Richichi is to clean up the downtown, which he feels can be accomplished in part with more policing.
“I don’t mean just going down there and bullying people. What I mean is we have people who are blatantly buying and selling drugs in front of our businesses and we’d like to curb that. You know, our kids are downtown and I want to bring it back to a safe and respectable town.”
He says he also wants to bring fresh ideas to the table including moving the city campground to the old garbage dump site and creating an affordable tiny home park where the campground is.
Richichi grew up in Nelson and moved back 20 years ago. He and his wife have a nine-year-old son.
