Candlelight vigil held for National Day of Remembrance and Action to End Violence against Women

The Violence against Women in Relationships Committee (VAWIR) is holding a candlelight vigil Thursday, December 6 for the National Day of Remembrance and Action to End Violence against Women.

Today commemorates the Montreal Massacre at L’Ecole Polytechnique in 1989 where 14 women, all but one of them students were murdered.

VAWIR hosts the event because “there is still a need.”

Community members are invited to remember the significance of this day by gathering on the grounds of Nelson City Hall for a Candlelight Vigil at 4:00PM.

VAWIR adds, “This event is not only about remembering but is about calling for change by supporting and valuing the lives of the people who are most impacted by violence.”
