Selkirk College students perform for a cause

Selkirk College’s Contemporary Music and Technology Program students will be performing in Nelson this week.  They’re wrapping up the semester with a show at the Spiritbar with funds going to the Nelson Food Cupboard.

The audience can expect some “funky and groovy sounds” from each student-based band which also features a Selkirk College music instructor. Students are excited to showcase a variety of styles.

The concert is this Thursday, December 13 with doors opening at 8:30PM and the show starting at 9:00pm. The cover charge is $10 and $5 for students.

Here’s a rundown of what is in store for the Spiritbar stage:

Big Mountain Rock is Bryden Summers on vocals, Lance Skelton on guitar, Ton Luc
playing drums and Ralf Buschmeyer on bass. Big Mountain Rock celebrates the pioneers
and current innovators in American roots rock.

Fifty Shades of Burgundy is an enthusiastic and creative alt-folk ensemble that offers a
smooth and energetic performance suited for all ages. The ensemble features Megan
Abel, Kurt McQuaid, Lindsay Elzinga, and instructor Landsberg on vocals, Thomas
McIsaac, Logan Smith, and Elias Popoff on guitars, A.J. Cunanan on bass, and Nick
DiCastri on drums.

Down to Funk is a dynamic R&B ensemble drawing on varying years of experience; from
seasoned veterans to enthusiastic beginners. This band has a unique energy and set list
that will blow your socks off. They will be playing popular R&B tunes ranging from
Aretha Franklin&’s “Chain of Fools,” to Childish Gambino’s “Redbone.” The ensemble
features Dari Marshall, Johan Miller, Mary Beth, and instructor Landsberg on vocals,
Cole Senger and Tristan Shears on guitar, Santo Joseph on bass, and Nick DiCastri on
drums.

Ensemble XIII will be serving up a fresh-n-vibey set of nu-pop hits guaranteed to get you
on the dance floor. Vocals are Tessa Frey-McLean, Alexanne Kasandra, Ross Nordell and
Nathan Vogel. Sheldon Nordell is on drums, Dean Bass on bass, Cole Senger and Kim Sol
on guitar and instructor Havelock John Tucker on keyboards.

Lock Robster features all original songs by some of the program’s finest singer-
songwriters and musicians. Heartfelt and always on point, the music will excite and
inspire you. Featuring Gabriel Smith, Jonny Dudar, Ryan Hommy, Jonah Morris, Ryan
O’Gorman, Sean Cox, Aja Banks, and Isaac “Blue” Klaasen-Wright, and led by instructor
Melody Diachun.
