Educational group to build relationship skills offered for men

Nelson Community Services is once again hosting an education group for men to help with relationship skills. It’s the third time for the program and it’s seen a lot of success. Toumbi is a family counsellor and says you can still sign up if you’re single.

“The only criteria is that it’s adult men and we’re not even requiring that they be in a relationship. Obviously, the course is about relationships but a lot of the folks we’ve had in the program before has just come out of a difficult relationship and were wanting to learn some of these skills to bring to their next relationship.”

It’s called Building Rewarding Relationships and Toumbi feels it provides an important service for men.

“Men don’t necessarily get the sort of natural life education in relationships as women do so much. As a cultural piece, I don’t know if there’s an much focus in men’s culture of thinking about and learning relationship skills.”

The group piece is especially beneficial for men as they can reflect on their experiences and learn from each other, says Toumbi.

It runs for eight weeks starting in March but you’re asked to sign up now. He adds it can fill up quickly.
